Rough-leaved sunflower
(Helianthus strumosus)

aka pale-leaved sunflower. This uncommon sunflower is distinguished by a combination of smooth stems, short-petioled and slightly-toothed leaves, and green stems. Lower and midstem leaves are opposite; upper leaves may be alternate or opposite. Phyllaries, green bracts below the petals, are recurved and bluntly rounded, separating this species from the similar H. decapetalus. Also, similar H. eggertii has blue-purple, waxy stems. MC (Asteraceae)
