Wild yam

formerly Dioscorea quaternata. This common native plant is distinguished by lower heart-shaped leaves, borne in whorls of three to seven leaves at each node. The upper stems vine, clinging to nearby plants. Vines in open sunshine produce a much higher density of leaves and may extend to six feet long. MC (Dioscoreaceae)
