American dog violet
(Viola labradorica)

aka alpine violet. Formerly Viola conspersa, although some sources consider these different species. Flowers are pale purple and spurred, rising slightly above a cluster of leaves. Similar to V. rostrata, but with shorter spurs and bearded petals. Rounded leaves have heart-shaped bases. Leafy stipules at the base of each petiole are coarsely toothed. Prefers meadows, low woods, and stream banks. MC (Violaceae)
