Small-headed sunflower
(Helianthus microcephalus)
aka small wood sunflower. This sunflower is characterized by relatively small flowers, measuring one to one and a half inches in diameter. Plants branch extensively near the top, with flowering shoots rising from upper leaf axils. Leaves are narrower than most of our sunflower species, and more pointed; stems are smooth; lower leaves are opposite, petioled, and lanceolate. MC (Asteraceae)
