Ox-eye sunflower
(Heliopsis helianthoides)

aka false sunflower. Not a true sunflower, in that the ray flowers (petals) are fertile. Close examination will reveal a small forked style attached to each one. A common late-summer species, standing to eight feet tall, bearing opposite, pointed leaves. MC (Asteraceae)
