This shrub or small tree is one of two native species locally called hearts-a-burstin'-with-love. This species is identified by creamy white flowers and bumpy seed cases.  Flowers and seeds are different on the similar species, Eupatorium atropurpureus
Green branches are opposite. MC (Celastraceae)
