Early spiderwort
(Tradescantia virginiana)

aka Virginia spiderwort. This species is differentiated from the more common zigzag spiderwort, T. subaspera, by it's spring flowering period (April - mid June) it's shorter height (to 18 inches), and it's longer, narrower leaves (extending to twenty inches.) Flowers vary from deep pink-purple to almost white.
