Prairie rose

This common native plant prefers open woods, thickets, and roadsides. It is distinguished by having only three leaflets; thorns are stout and somewhat downcurved. Leaf-like stipules at the base of each leaf petiole are not fringed, as in R. multiflora. Note the pistils are fused to look like a lollipop in the center of the flower. MC (Rosaceae)
