Eastern black Oak
(Quercus velutina)

aka black oak. Grows to 80 feet, but often found as a scrubby edge tree. Leaves are wide with relatively shallow indentations; they tend to be thick and glossy. Mature bark does not have the shiny ridges found in other members of the red oak group. Inner bark is orange. MC (Fagaceae)
