Mimosa

aka silktree. This Asian tree is frequently planted in lawns; it occasionally escapes into the wild. The pink flowers have stamens only, without petals, making them different than most other legumes. Compound leaves have touch-sensitive leaflets which will close when pinched or rained upon. Trees appear to have a shorter life span than most, leaving dead snags after a few years. MC (Fabaceae)
