Common milkweed
(Asclepias syriaca)

By far our most common milkweed, it is found in fields and roadsides. Like all members of its genus, it exudes a sticky white sap when wounded. All genus members also exhibit an extra set of petal-like structures, giving each flower a skirt, or corona. Pods are rounder than other local species, with surface spines. This species is a host for monarch butterflies at egg-laying time. MC (Asclepiadaceae)
