False hellebore
(Melanthium woodii)

Formerly Veratrum woodii; aka Wood's bunchflower. This is a rare species of the deep woods, known locally from a few sites in Mammoth Cave N.P. Round, bold-veined leaves appear in the spring, with later leaves getting more elongated as summer progresses. Small maroon and green flowers are borne on four to six-foot stalks. MC (Melanthiaceae)
