Showy goldenrod
(Solidago speciosa)

Solidago erecta (erect or slender goldenrod) is now considered a variety of this fall species.Lower leaves are smooth, with few if any teeth; stems are hairless. Flowers have only 5 or 6 rays on this two- to six-foot plant. Prefers woods openings, fields, and prairies. (Asteraceae) MC
