Rough goldenrod

aka rough-stemmed or wrinkle-leaved goldenrod. Characterized by a branching inflorescence, with rough, spoon-shaped and toothed lower leaves; leaf stems taper to winged stalks. Stands two to four feet tall. Uncommon in open woods and along stream. MC (Asteraceae)
