Fistulose goat's beard
(Tragopogon dubius)

aka salsify. This infrequent European weed is naturalized along roadsides and in waste places. It is distinguished from others in the genus by green bracts that extend well beyond the yellow petals. Flowers close by late morning. The word fistulose means hollow-stemmed, which applies here. Stems show large amounts of purple. Seed heads resemble huge dandelions. (Asteraceae)
