Erect dayflower
(Commelina erecta)

Uncommon in our area, and one of four species of dayflower. This native species features a white or clear lower petal and white bristles on the leaf sheaths. Upper leaves are narrower than those of our other species The spathe, a leafy structure surrounding the flower buds and later seeds, is open only near the top, not all the way down the sides. Roots are relatively thick and not easily pulled  from the ground. (Commelinaceae)
