(Silphium perfoliatum)

aka leaf-cup; Indian-cup. This riverside composite grows to eight feet tall. Leaves and angled stems are smooth; upper leaves are perfoliate, forming the cups which give the plant its name. It has the recurved sepals found in all Silphium members. MC
