White bergamot
(Monarda russeliana)
aka red-purple bee balm. This uncommon plant is easily confused with eastern bergamot, M. bradburniana, which flowers about the same time. Leaves on this plant are smaller, growing to 6 cm. Leaf edges are smooth or barely toothed, in contrast with those of M. bradburniana. Leaf-like bracts below the flowers on these individuals were uniformly pink-purple, although this trait is not listed in field guides. MC (Lamiaceae)
