Beech drops
(Epifagus virginiana)

This non-photosynthetic species usually appears as a cluster of brown stick-like stalks which rise to a height of 20 inches. They are parasitic on the roots of American beech trees, and they are easily located next to many beeches. Small flowers appear in September and October. MC (Orobanchaceae)
