Allegheny spurge
(Pachysandra procumbens)
This uncommon plant has three distinct phases. Stalks of brownish-white flowers appear first, in March or April. After they die back, a colony of uniformly pale-green stalks appears. Later in the summer, leaves turn a mottled green-brown. Mottled leaves persist well into the next spring. Flowers are best found by searching next to the previous year's leaves. (Buxaceae)
